Parastoo Allahyaari AcquittedTuesday 18 August 2009 Change for Equality: Branch 34 of the appeals court of the province of Tehran in a ruling has overturned the one year mandatory prison sentence of Parastoo Allahyaari, member of the Campaign, and has acquitted her of the charges against her. The ruling of the appeals court which was issued to Zohreh Arzani on July 13, 2009, the lawyer representing Allahyaari, has found that: “given that collection of signatures intent on changing the laws addressing women in society and social movements titled the campaign of women cannot be viewed as an action of spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic, therefore the charge is faced with serious doubt. “ Based on this finding the court has acquitted Allahyaari of the charge of spreading propaganda against the state, in relation to her membership in the Campaign and the collection of signatures in support of the Campaign’s petition. |
